I am thinking about trying a different browser. Everyone has their preference and swears by one thing or another, but I want some good reasons.

I like IE for development at work since most of our users use IE, but I prefer Firefox/Mozilla. You can install it and try it out before you remove IE. Go to http://www.firefox.com The thing I like about Firefox is the fact that they developed tab browsing first so I think they deserve credit for that. They take up less memory when you use it, and they are open source so they can be configured easily.

People might say security is better in Firefox, but thats not true. Both browsers have the same security. I have read articles about how IE is more secure and I saw other articles saying Firefox is more secure. They both have the same security, but most people use IE so hackers normally target IE more.

Nothing makes other browsers "better" than IE. Some browsers are less popular and less integrated into the operating system, and are therefore more secure - for instance, Foxfire.

However, because they are less popular and less integrated into the operating system, they have compatibility issues and less support.

One could argue that Unix or Linux are "better" operating systems than windows because they are not hacked as much. The fact is, it might be more secure (Because less people are using it and less people are TRYING to hack it) but at the same time, tell me how superior it is when you want to play the latest games or latest office productivity software and it doesn't work.

That's the tradeoff.

Other browsers such as Firefox allow me to enter URLs for porn sites in the form of http://username:password@site.com/members, whereas IE gives me errors.
