For bedding, you need some sort of insulation from the ground especially in cooler weather. A foam mat or a thermarest self-inflating matress will keep the ground from drawing out all of your body heat. I recommend the thermarest. It acts as an insulator and it's very comfortable.
Clothing can be tricky. No matter what the weather is like, you should prepare for the worst. In the Summer, always pack light rain gear and any light long underwear just in case. You may never have to use it during the warmer months of the year, but you don't have control of the weather. Dehydration and hyperthermia are two leading causes of death in the wilderness.

The most important item that you must have is an adequate insulate cushion for your sleeping bag, even if you are using a cot. The cold ground or air will drain the warmth from your body and make it very difficult to get any decent sleep. If you don't sleep well, the trip will not be as much fun. For greatest heat retention, sleep in a light layer of polar fleece clothing. It will help retain heat, while evaporating perspiration.

knee socks, ankle socks, shorts, sweatpants, sweatshirts, jeans, cargos, tee shirts, hiking boots, sneakers, and lots of bug spray. bring a sleeping bag, mosquito netting, and and extra mat to put on the ground. It is always best to be prepared so you should bring all of the above just in case.
