It is called football because it is played with your feet.
Americans call it soccer because American football is generally called football. I see them playing this game with their HANDS.
What does soccer mean anyways? Where does this word come from?

An Englishman named Brown came up with the term soccer to differentiate association football from American football, which was established before soccer. It makes sense to call it soccer so that there is no confusion.

I know that in England they say Football and here in the USA it's called Soccer. In Mexico it's Futbol. I sometimes say Football. Then they ask American or Mexican. You know, that is both funny and weird.

For obvious reasons, you use your FOOT to move the BALL, hence Football.

I've heard they call it Soccer in Ireland and Australia and I have seen the word Soccer being used to describe the sport it printed in 'The Sun' and 'The Guardian', two very popular English newspapers.

Americans have their Football, so they need to use different names for each sport.
