If you mean a backup of data, yes

If you mean a backup of XP itself and all the programs and other software, no.

You have to have XP up and running on the PC to be able to run the backup program and retrieve files from the backup. So you can not use XP backup to create a clone of your XP PC.

If you are wanting to clone your PC, you will need a program like Norton Ghost or Drive Image. Either of these will allow you to make a complete copy of your hard drive which can be used to install a working version of XP with all the other software and data on another PC or hard drive.

I use Drive Image daily to install XP on PCs. Have a generic image with Office and other software that I can drop on new PCs and have them up and running in about a hour and a 1/2. Use Ghost when working on PCs out of my home.
