What if Yoda spoke Chinese & Japanese & Korean & Vietnamnese & Thai & Malay & Indonesian & etc. properly ??? And you would have to read english subtitle in order to guess how smart this old little green big ears Alien is??? Would that sound more logical to you?
Indeed ... I heard some little monsters (Yoda's fellows??) (in Starwar I) said, "fire D! fire D!", means hurry up in Cantonese, while they were running around! Perhaps the scriptwriter picked that up from a Chinese Restaurant!
Yoda is cute because he doesn't speak english properly, he sounds 100% alien not just from his look but also from the way he speaks!!!
Are you a native English speaker? Why couldn't you type properly???
cant = can't?
poperly = properly?

Yoda phrases things differently, but they are understandable English sentences.
Perhaps his native tongue naturally moves the subject, noun and adjective around, as do many Romance languages.
I'd assume he knows the difference, but feels more comfortable expressing himself that way.
Or, maybe he just likes people underestimating his intelligence, as Luke did. This gives him an opportunity to see how people behave towards him before they know the truth.
Either way, I doubt Lucas ever thought it through. He's good on ideas, but not on fleshing them out properly.

Becouse he do not mind much abou it i think.
English is noting but a language ...
a language developed from many others,
a language which shall be melted down soon or later alog with other languages, and result shall be something other language.
Well - Yoda is smart , and he do not learn some useless in the future - that's all :)

Two possibilities:
a) He likes messing with the other Jedis' heads.
b) He speaks the language represeneted by English the way he learned it when he was young -- 700 years ago. Old people often find it hard to update their language.
Prefer the former explanation, myself, I do.

No my friend you have it wrong. Yoda speaks correctly, but we have yet to catch up linguistically. Trust me, everywhere soon speak will yoda like. Or something. My head hurts.

Probably because he's so smart that he doesn't need to follow the normal rules of the English language.

Just as dialects of english vary from country to country and even region to region in the U.S., they also do from galaxy to galaxy. He doesn't speak King's English - just a derivative of it. So in actuality, he may be very well spoken according to the rules of his language.

It's the Columbo effect (detective show from the 80's and 90's)...he does it to lull you into a false sense of security. He's hoping that you'll think that he's not very intelligent, and therefore underestimate his abilities.
