July 4th Because it celebrates the day after my b-day

July 4, 1946
The true independence day of the Philippines was not the one of 1898 but the one granted by the Americans on July 4, 1946.

Most Filipinos celebrate the declaration of Philippine independence on June 12 of every year. President Diosdado Macapagal signed an executive order in May 17, 1962 that "moved" the Philippines's independence day from 1946 to 1898. On the basis of the June 12, 1898 alleged declaration of independence by Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo in Kawit, Cavite, he thought that it was his mandate to correct "history." He thought it would serve better the national aspirations of the Filipino people to adopt that date as the Philippines' independence day. Can President Macapagal's executive order change history?

As was debated over and over in Philippine history, many have approved that June 12 should be the ID. The reason is this: Americans declared July 4 for the Philippines, while June 12 was declared by Filipinos for their mother land. Also (as what I've remembered in history class), it said that Independence is something that is not given, but was fought for.

Why would July 4th be Phillipines Independence day? That is for America. Now, yes, they have a fouth of July, just as the rest of the world, but that is a date, not a holiday.

Just as the 5th of May comes around every year, but I do not celebrate "cinco de mayo" . That is not a holiday or day of any significance to me. (although, in America it seems that they are trying to get everyone to celebrate that day)

The only people who have independence day on the 4th of july are americans, because we are the only ones who got freedom that day! Just because america got there independence 4th of july doesnt mean the whole world did on the same day. 5th of may cinco de mayo, mexicos independence day. It has to be june 12th.

what i have studied, originally june 12 is the official PHILIPPINE independence day! july 4 is for america. of course as i see it. one of the reasons it was turned to july 4 because the filipinos wants to "satisfy" the americans by changing our independence day to their date, like as if they wanted the filipinos to be "part" of america. but wait... is'nt that is supposed to be the point of america conquering us? correct me if i'm wrong, but thats why we have the same date as the americans, in order to us be "america" too...

but to the question, again. it IS supposed to be June 12...

I prefer July 4, 1946. The day we were released or given independence by the Yanks. We haven't been invaded since and that should stand. Just my opinion though

It should be June 12, because, Pilipinas declared it's independence from Spain in 1898 on June 12, but America just had to anaxe the Phils.! But just because america gave us (again!) our independence it doesn't mean that we have to celebarte it on our 2nd independence day!
