you look at the news and you see a wreck on your local highway, then you read later and find out it was either an elderly person, or an adolescent beginner driver. I really do thing the driving age should be changed to promote safer highways, by making teens wait until they are 18 will encourage accountability, no longer will their parents be at fault for something they did. We definitely need to determine when an ederly person should stop driving, because they hold up the flow of traffic and drive too slow. What do you think about passing legislation to change the driving age for both the ederly and adolescents?

I wholeheartedly agree about raising the age to 18. In my state it's 17.

The driver training and testing is a joke. I learnt driving in Germany and my son learnt driving in the US, so I know the difference. The theoretical portion of the drivers test is far too simple, kids learn nothing about cars and how they work, and the practical portion is a waste of time: Can you go around the corner and park? Yes? Passed.

I also agree about the elderly, although there is a problem.. if an elderly person is on a limited income and has to get to the store to buy groceries, how are they supposed to get there when they have no friends or relatives to do the weekly shopping for them? There's just not enough of a social system in place to care for these people. I'd love for my tax money to go to help them, but alas, the gvmt thinks that a war is more important than helping people at home.

You try waiting until you're 18!! The only way a person learns a skill is by practice. The parents can help a lot by telling them where to drive and not drive and how to drive safely.

As far as telling elderly people when not to drive, I have a similar concern, b/c many of them are alone and have nobody to take them around. So you just want them to sit around and not go to the store and not go to the bank and not go anywhere at all? Yes, you want them to be trapped at home, dependent on others like you, who want to tie the hands of those who are not "perfect" by your standards.

Cars are quite easy to drive these days and traffic laws make things simple. If one is not feeling up to a drive, one can stick to local roads at low-traffic hours. It does not mean one should not posess a driver's license. People need to go places and at certain ages now set by law, they are responsible enough to make the decisions that you are suggesting others make for them.

I used to stay in holy Toledo and then moved to California, right here they don't settle for drivers licenses from different states attempt flow to California, you'll surely have extra relaxing and progression in existence, regardless of this, it truly ain't remember what's the legal age for procuring a drivers licensee in Ohio, understood ?

Yeah, make 16 the permit age, then make them hold till they are 18 .. and keep restrictions until they are 21.

You already have to wait till your 18 to get your full lisence in new mexico. And i beleive that an annual or bi-annual check for seniors would be nice too.
