I'm unsure what you mean by 'captive' power plant. Co-Generation is the production of steam for use in a process and use of the waste steam to produce electicity by means of a steam generator. Sugar companies require vast amouts of steam to process the product. By building a large, modern steam plant close by, steam can be exported to the 'host' (sugar refinery) after it goes through a steam generator - producing electricity. The steam pressure required in the sugar refining process is far lower than that produced in the boiler or HRSG. After passing through the steam generator, the wetter, lower pressure steam is piped to the host, reduced in pressure, dried, and distributed within the plant at various pressures and temperatures for use in the refining process.
