Hi,

I have a problem with an Acer 1620 (laptop). It is getting very hot. The fan makes a lot of noise simply by turning on the laptop. The last days the computer turns off automatically. Should I clean the fan? if yes, how? if not, what can I do?

Thanks for your time, I hope to hear from you soon.

Best wishes

If it gets too hot it could fry the motherboard. It happened on my Dell laptop twice in 3 months. Sorry not sure how to clean the fan.

My acer 5670wlmi has the same thing. Its caused by the hard drive running all the time.
Most people dont think about that, but it makes alot of heat.
The heat transfers to the nearby ram very easily, which causes some problems.
The best thing you can do is buy a usb powered cooling pad for it.

The only thing you can do if you cant carry around the cooling pad would be to buy a western digital hardrive($60-$125) and put it in after transfering all the data, but this requires a $15 external case for the hard drive, and then you need to take the laptop apart. The main advantage of a western digital is that it runs really cool compared to all others.

your laptop has a configuration in the bios that when it reaches the temperature that sets in the bios it automatically shutdown your system. I don't want to suggest to clean your fan if you haven't open yet your laptop.

Make sure the vents are clear and not blocked. Use compressed air can to blow dust out.
