I never thought that I had any issues being an adult child of an alcoholic, until I read a book. It described me exactly.

You should read it. It's called "It will never happen to me" by Claudia Black. If possible, get the one with the green cover.

they are children of alcoholics. that is the only common trait. We make our own decisions and paths in life. My father was an alcoholic and my siblings and I are all different. None of us are alcoholics. Two of the four refuse to even be around it while the other two are a little more lax.

The children of alcoholics can become one themselves as it is hereditary. Not all children do, some are addicted by watching the behaviour of the parent and thinking that it is OK to drink. Like all drugs it is up to you in the end to drink or to say no. One drink is not enough, one drink is too much for an alcoholic.

i'm the child of an alcoholic and i think control issues and being an alcoholic are common traits

someone answered control issues, yes.......also a heightened sense of responsibility at too early an age, trust can be an issue, also the either / or about becoming an alcoholic (or addicted to other substances), we sometimes can be very judgemental about others we share our lives with....those are a the top ones I think.

They either become alcoholics or they don't...I have seen this happen before...It's really sad to see kids grow up around an alcoholics...They really don't get the love they need,It's avery sad world we have made...

just plain out being a teenager! i know because i am teenager! half of most teenagers drink on a daily basis!
