First of all I would not ever use alcohol on my legs after shaving so skip that advice.
It sounds like you have fairly thick or coarse hair on your legs. Try letting your hair have more time to soften up in the shower before you shave it like at the end of your shower or something and use an exfoliating body wash. Try the Intuition shaver and you don't need shaving cream. The lotion you use after could also irritate your skin and cause the redness so try something with no scent for sensitive skin. There is a lotion at Wal-Mart that you can get that if you use if every day it will help hair to grow in less coarse and slower. It contains soy which is good for that. If I can remember the name of it I will post it.
Nevermind, it was by Jergens and they discontinued it. But lotions with soy will work.

Men use after shave to close their pores after shaving. The ingredient in after shave that does that is alcohol.
If the dots you are seeing are red, it is from irritation of pulling, shaving the hairs.
Put some body lotion in the frig, and use it cold, might help.Puting Cold water on immediately after shaving will help.

I don't know bout how to close the pores. But I've tried preventing it. I shave while bathing. And I put hair conditioner on my legs to lessen the friction between the legs and the shaver. Cos I'm rather sensitive to certain shavers, and I sometimes itch after shaving. But after trying the conditioner stuff, I don't have the problem of itching no more.

Pores or "dots"as you call them...can be reduced by a simple way...when you shave...use warm water....then when ur done...use cold water on ur legs...to wipe away any remaining hair...it works great! Try it..cold water closes pores(smile*)
