Economic aid is part of helping nations in need and at the same time to foster diplomatic ties. In return, Indonesia will trade with Australia or cooperate in terms of counter-terrorism or defense of the region in case of war.

I would rather see Australia spending money on desalination (if that's the right word) plants for water supplies to some of our capital cities than military growth. At the moment we don't have a defence force, we have an offence force. My opinion anyway!!!
