My comp is a desktop AMD 1000 with a 30 gig HD(hard drive) as the primary master, a DVD recorder as primary slave and a CD recorder as the secondary master. I'm planning on getting a 250 gig HD to use to hold files. Can I put the new HD in the secondary slave spot? If not how should I arrange them?

Extra question: Is it better to install Windows XP on the smaller or larger HD?

The answer is yes you can.

But the suggestion is not to do that.

If you really want to use all those drives togather, I suggest you to arrange them as Hdd in Primary (Master that contains the OS and the other one as Slave), DVD and CD Recorders as Secondary. Chose the Recorder as master that is used mostly for Installation. You must know the Jumper setting of all the drives to install them correctly.

Simple load the Bigger HDD with XP and connect it as primary master and another hdd as Primary slave. Dvd recorder as Secondary Master and Cd recorder as secondary Slave this is the usally way of installing which is the correct order which doesnt confuse.

well, although u can install the new hdd on the sec-slave spot, i persona;;y don't recommend it. instead, rearrange so that the hdds are pri master and slave. and the dvd recorder and the cd writer as secondary master/slave.

if u've never opened up ur pc before and have no experience with it.. DON'T do it urself. get help. its better to be safe.

yes you can just arrange the jumpers right and keep XP on the small one incase you have to reformat the drive. I have 2 drives and the small one is master and i have had viruses on it but they have never gotten on the big on thats why i store all of my programs on it.

If it truly is a SATAchronic you want a SATA cable (it truly is going to comprise your hardchronic if it isn't any longer a OEM hardrive) If it truly is a IDE hardrive, then you really might want to run through some problems in case you've already got 2 or more effective DVD or CDchronic because it desires a similar type of cable to run. it is mandatory to set your secondary hardrive as slave besides by using placing the jumpers on the hardrive itself. sturdy success

Get an external hard drive and you don't have to worry about anything! Just plug and play!

It's just that simple!
