The atlantean myth is thought to have originated from a corruption of historical resources eg. works of ancient writers but many now believe that ancient Atlantis is a relatively modern rendicent of Ancient Crete, basically the ancient Minoans and also the inhabitants of an island called Theira (speculation on whether it was a minoan colony.) Ancient Theira (now Santorini) and ancient minoan crete were both hit by a killer tidal wave and earthquake some c.3000 years back, Minoan culture which was according to archaeologists perhaps the most advanced and civilised for its time period was also it was a major naval power renowned for its beautiful palaces, anyway Minoan culture died with that catastrophic event and a portion of Santorini was destroyed.
This matches fairly that super advanced and beautiful Atlantis was dragged to the bottom of the seas.
Also there is a greek myth (i'm not sure if im entirely accurate) that Atlas the titan doomed to hold the weight of the world on his shoulders was a king of Atlantis and when he defied the gods Zeus destroyed the island.

There are plenty of Atlantic civilizations. Miami is on the Atlantic. New York, as well. Boston. Rio de Janeiro. Buenos Aires. Cape Town. Lisbon. Countless Atlantic civilizations.

Or, do you mean Atlantis?
