What is this silliness that I am getting about dark not existing. Why is it even a word if it doesn’t exist. And the absence of light… gee… I sort of think someone would have used the term “lightless” if they wanted to convey that point. I don’t think most of you guys have the slightest clue where it goes. Why even waste your time to tell me dark or darkness doesn’t exist?

It does not go anywhere, it is still there, you can not see it because the light makes everything that was in the dark too bright to see the dark anymore.

If a tree falls in the forest when no hearers are there, does it make a sound? No, because sound is in the minds of hearers.

When the light is turned on in a room, does the dark go somewhere? No, because there was no dark there in the first place: - light and dark are in the mind.

Science would say that photons (light wavicles) start coming from the light filament, but photons are not light - light is how the mind interprets the effect of photons on the eye and optic nerve.

The 'dark' goes back where it came from and where 'light' comes from - the mind.

There is no such thing as darkness , and that is why you are perplexed ! "DarK" is a word used to indicate absence of light !
Look at "cold" ! Where does cold go when you heat something ..... again absence of , or less of heat is called cold, for easy reference. And don't be surprised if the same is true about death also, because, again it is absence of life !

Stay up and watch the sunset or get up and watch the sunrise . It is quite illuminating. The answer is that the darkness changes wave lengths and becomes the light. The higher the wavelength the warmer the color of the sky around you. Black becomes purple, becomes blue, becomes oranges, becomes yellow. With incandescent bulbs the transition its the same but it happens so fast our eyes don't perceive the changes.

I think the darkness flees just like the monsters and the cockraoches do when the light goes on. Just follow them, and you'll find the dark.

Light/dark oppositions.... Try one on weight/lightness....
Read the "Unbearable Lightness of Being" Great book. Delves into philosophy the movie can't get to.

A well thought question. First let me appreciate this question as it has made many to think with their level of knowledge. According to my evaluation, Darkness doesn't go anywhere it is getting transformed to light. When you fill vaccum with sand, the vaccum is not going anywhere it is getting transformed to sand. When your mind is sad, you gets some news which makes you pleasent where does the sadness go? Sadness got transformed to pleasentness. Nothing dies as per physics also. Everything undergoes transformation, change of form.....I will still keep reading answers to this question.....some of the earlier answers are really good.

Light is energy, while darkness is not. Darkness is not like water and matter. It is actually non-existant. We just give it a name whereby darkness is a situation where there is absense of light. When you bring on a light souce, the darkness cease to exist, it did not go anywhere.

The dark doesn't go anywhere. Our darkness doesn't go anywhere either. However, turning the lights on is very meaningful. It speaks strength, guts, desire and to perplexing problems, it speaks NO FEAR!. I will save this and read it to myself. Intense question, Thank you.

behind your eyelids, inside your ears, down your throat, up your....
Well, let's just let your mind run with that.

Now, there's a scary thought.

And there's nothing you can do about it!
The darkness invades every orifice of your body, running like cockroaches for any and every sanctuary from the light it may find!

Why do you think doctors are always sticking lights up, around, down, and, otherwise, in places they don't really belong?
