I realize i'm going to sound like a total whore when I say this, but I really find that spit works best. It's not an irritant, and it is viscous and slippery enough.
That said, as far as real lube goes, my best experience has been with
ID i think it's called (see I can't remember cause I always use spit). Also, some dude ****** me in a hot tub once and used pur, a european silicon based lube that didn't wash away in water...that was good, but i felt like i was lubed and ready to go for hours, till i showered and washed throroughly. It kinda felt like engine oil or something, but in a good way. You know? Keep the pistons going :-P.

1) Pur Eros
2) Wet - I prefer the traditional
3) KY
I don't reccomend spit - but if you are going to use it - at least have it be your own.
If you are in a monogamous relationship vaseline might be ok if you are not using protection. However, vaseline helps break condoms down. So you should not use vaseline with a condom. In a addition it can be hard to clean out.
For years I was a loyal fan of wet. But this eros pur stuff is just out of this world.
Be sure and shop around. You'd be surprized how much some places jack prices up.

You should be using a condom as a barrier against disease when performing anal. Crisco, animal fats, vaseline, etc are all destructive to latex and may well lead to an accidental breaking of the condom. Use a water based lubricant like KY, wet, Elbo-grease, etc.

There is a brand of water based lube called "gun oil." I love it! It doesn't dry up quickly and doesn't stain the sheets!
