These type of series are played as the Juniors of the main team should know how the other international teams would be and the way they play and many other things will be understood.
The main reason is to get the required experience to how to handle the situations etc.
There is no particular name for these series'. If at all a name is there for a series then it is the name of the sponsor's only.
