I exercise regularly to help lift my mood, relieve stress, and reduce fluid retention, avoid caffeine to relieve anxiety, irritability, and breast tenderness, don't drink alcohol which can exacerbate headaches, fatigue, and depression, and take Midol/Premsyn. What else is there? (Seriously.)

You are working out and avoiding irritants, as you should be doing. You could be more proactive though.

1. Watch your blood sugar level. If you are seriously PMS-ing get one of those testing machines the diabetics use. Your hormone levels could be gyrating all over the place and giving you a blood balance problem. Sugar is the only one you can easily check yourself.
2. Replace lost iron with an increase in iron rich foods or iron supplements. Begin several days before and continue several days after your period.
3. Moderate your diet to include a variety of Tofu recipes and vegetables with vitamin A.
4. Increase your vitamin B intake or take B-Complex supplements.

;-D Live long and prosper!

I read an article by some doctor about ten years ago in regards to a study that was conducted in relation to PMS and calcium. It concluded that women who took calcium supplements on a daily basis had symptoms reduced by about 90%. The doctor explained that just about all ailments are caused by some kind of vitamin deficiency...and most people are deficient in at least some of the 28 vitamins and minerals that we need on a daily basis. The calcium supplements must contain vitamin D- which aids in the absorption of the calcium. The more you take the better- the absorption is sometimes only about 40% so you can take and probably should take double the recommended daily allowance- this doctor in particular called it having "expensive urine." Meaning that you can not exactly take too many vitamins- whatever you don't need your body will just not use it- and your urine will be "expensive"

Rosemary oil and vitamin E can help with breast tenderness; Vitamin E taken during the month and rosemary oil as a more instant fix. Uva ursi (a herb) or some kind of herbal diuretic can help get rid of extra water so there is less puffiness and tenderness. For mood swings, it sounds like you are doing what you can to keep things under control, but I also agree that blood sugar regulation is important, and maybe get your hormone levels checked to make sure the estrogen and progesterone are evenly balanced.

I recall while flicking through an article a while back that lack of energy during this time can contribute to it and that eating bananas can help ease it.

Also, try an Iron supplement such as FLORADIX: http://www.florahealth.com/flora/home/usa/products/r64771.asp
(available in US, Canada + the UK.. mostly through health food shops).
