simple- percentages are pieces of 100 (centum meaning 100) and per (meaning "for each") for example: one dollar is equal to one hundred "cents", one quarter dollar is 25 "cents" or 25 percent of a dollar, a nickle is 5 "cents" or 5 percent of a dollar, a dime is 10 "cents" or 10 percent of a dollar- no mater how big a number you have the percentage is a fraction of it in "per" "cents".

example 2:
you are going to buy a car- the car costs $5374.71- the tax on it is 10 percent- so the tax amount is - $537.47- if it were 1 percent it'd be $53.74, if 5 per cent it'd be (5 percent is 5 "per" "cents" 1 percent times 5 = $268.70)

example 3:
You have a bag with 100 lbs of apples in it, and need to split it 6 ways- 100/6= 16.67 lbs, so each portion is "16.67 percent" of the whole bag of 100 lbs. (well, nearly)

Fraction are just division problems- for example 1/3- is the same as 1 divided by 3= decimally it's .33, so 1/4 is 1 divided by 4 (or .25)

hope this helps.

its literally parts of one hundred.

so, you ask 1000 folks, 861 say yes, 131 say no. so, that 86.1 saying yes and 13.1 saying no. (0.8% didnt give an answer) and it all adds up to 1000.

say we ask 90 people, and 30 say yes. 30 say no and 30 cant make up their mind. (this is so easy) percentages and statistics and fractions are all opposite each other, like multiplication and division. addition and subtraction. we can do one to check the accuracy of the other. 3x6=18, 18/3=6

i have taught my daughters to do dirty math. 27x6 becomes (3x6) 180 minus 6x3 (18) = 162 so we know where the decimal point is, and so we dont make silly errors and the answer becomes 162000...where does the point go? dirty math is the engineeering equivalent of a zip code or postcode, it wont tell you the house number, but itll get yo u into the correct area.

and a fraction is a percentage. 1/1 =100% 50% is1/2 yes half, 33% is?
25% is?
or, 12.5% 6.25% its all linear progression.

example. 6.25% is the same as 1/16 (6.25x16=? ) it goes into 100 16 times or 1/16, so can be expressed as a percentage. or, if you scored 6.25 in a test, (out of 100) you get ?

what do you think happens if we increase the base to 1000? is 62.5 out of 1000 better or worse than 6.1/4% of 100?

Keep one principle in mind percentage and fractions are one and the same thing. Always make your denominator equal to 100 to get the percentage.
Say 4/5 multiply it by 20/20 and make your denominator equals to 100 . you get 80/100 so 80%.

A percentage is really a number out of one hundred

per centum (latin ... the roman numeral C is 100)

Types of questions:

What is 30% of $120-00

(or how much is a 30% discount off these expensive shoes ... etc)

30 as a percent is 30/100 (or 0.3)
"of" means multiply

so 30% of $120.00 is 30/100 X 120 ... comes out as 36

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You sit your maths test and out of 60 marks, you score 48! (I'm such a good teacher). Express your mark as a percentage.

(this means - turn it into a percent number, or a number out of 100, instead of out of 60)

For this, you will need to do 48/60 and then multiply by 100

48/60 = 0.8

0.8 X 100 = 80%

(note that 80% is the same as 80/100 according to what we did above, which is 0.8 as a decimal)

well its to easy for percentages

when u need to know how much percentage need then

% = (number obtain / total number )*100

and u get percentage

and if u need to change percentage into number
then

number = (%*total number)/100

for fractions

just LCM the number into prime factor and u get the fraction of number and any other related que u can ask me i try my best to solve it

OK got it
