The best thing to do is to rub aloe vera gel on your burn. If you get a bottle of aloe vera gel (it's really cheap at WalMart) and keep it in the fridge, it will do wonders for sunburns. Just apply a thick coat on your burn. When your skin has absorbed the moisture, rub on some more. Keep applying as your skin absorbs the moisture, and you won't blister or peel (or if you do peel, it won't be near as bad).

if you have actual blisters on your skin from a sunburn then you need to seek medical attention asap-blisters are a sign of a second degree burn and the more severe the burn is, the greater the risk of dehydration.
if you do NOT have visible blisters then the following things should prove helpful:
1. drink lots of fluid to replace what was lost from being out in the sun too long-water is best but gatorade will work well too-you want to avoid things such as soda and juice b/c these have a high sugar content and can make dehydration worse.
2. take cool showers and avoid soaps with fragrance or dyes in them-your skin is already burned and irritated-these things can make it worse and you could have an allergic reaction
3. apply a thin layer of aloe vera gel to the burn-do not cover it with anything-covering it will trap the heat that needs to escape and can also trap any germs that are present-leaving you open to infection
4. take ibuprofen-it will help with the pain and swelling. 200-400mg every 4-6 hours but do NOT exceed 1200mg in 24 hours.
5. avoid putting any type of lotion, oils,or ointments on the sunburn-these will actually create a barrier over the burn trapping in heat and germs which can cause infection
doing all of the above will help treat the sunburn and make life a little easier for you-you still might peel which is the bodies way of naturally getting rid of the dead, burned skin and replacing it with new skin

Once your skin was burned by the sun so severely that it blistered, there is no way to prevent it from peeling since the skin is dead and has to eventually peel. So just let nature take its course and it will peel when it is ready to. And no you will not have a tan after the skin peels.

Rub plenty of moisture cream in, morning, noon and night. If you keep the skin soft and supple then it will reduce the painful peeling that leaves it red-raw underneath. The thing with sunburn is that the skin is dead/damaged so your body will shed it if it can. BUT if you keep moisturising then only the very top layer will peel off; just look after the under-layers once the top layer has come off. :-)

It will blister. The damage is done. The top layer of skin is fried. The question is not: will it peel? It's when? Slather lots of Aloe gel on for some relief througout.
