Re-installing Windows XP will require a complete "drive" format. If you have your computer partioned for only one partion, that would mean deleting everything and starting for scratch. If you want to save your files, back them up on a blank CD or DVD... assuming you have a CD or DVD burner, and then just reload them onto your computer after the re-install. Programs will also require a re-install from their respected install files. You can't just drag-and-drop entire programs from computer to computer like you could with pictures, music, and word documents.

Have a nice day.

Reinstalling XP the correct way will make you lose your info, yes. However, what I would check is two things. First off, go into the services manager by going to start-run-"services.msc". From there search for anything related to the firewall, and make sure it is enabled and automatically starting on bootup. From there, reboot, and check the windows security center to see if that helped. If not, it is possible to do a repair install from windows, but if you dont have a fresh manufacturers copy, it may not work. Try the services manager trick first.

Every time I re-install xp it resets the whole thing. About every 6 months I through in the windows xp disc and and it automaticly resets my computer. I do it just to keep it healthy. So my guess is yes.

You can do a safe reinstall that just installs the operating system and leaves other files intact. But you should always back up important files in case something goes wrong. Good luck!

If you reinstall, you will lose everything. I don't know how to fix your problem, but I do know that you shouldn't reformat your computer unless you have no other options.
