The best thing you can do as your in the UK is get a DVB capable card. Most TV cards require you to plug in an aerial and you just get the normal old 5 channels.
With a DVB card you can also pickup freeview digital channels such as those from the BBC and others. Many also come with built in aerials.
Here is a review of one that just plugs into your USB port http://www.bit-tech.net/bits/2006/06/15/World_Cup_tech-fever/3.html and its only £25 from ebuyer.com
See this link for all of their Digital recivers http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/cat/Graphics-Cards/subcat/Satellite/Digital-Receivers

Cost doesn't matter if you wants to entertain yourself.
Just do this ...
Brought A TV Tuner that allows you to connect the cable with your PC and receive any tv channels according to the cable service provider in your city , This quite help you a lot.
Or Else
Just install an online tv software that allows you to receive tv channels broadcasted over the internet

Freecom do a cheap but very good USB TV tuner - you will be able to receive freeview digital tv/radio channels. When you tune the receiver for the first time, hook it up to an external antenna or a dedicated powered DVB-T antenna. My only problem with tuner cards is reception - especially if you're relying on portable antenna only

The software is easy to install and use; you can also record tv programmes.

You need a TV card and an aerial socket too. The PC card can either be USB (easier to fit!) or PCI. You will need an aerial to receive TV, the cards are generally able to receive Freeview too and The USB ones cost about £40 in PC World.

Buy a Winhaupage package from ebay, cost's about £30.00 and you get all the digital channels etc.
I would suggest calling PC world and asking one of thier spotty geeks as the products change daily. I use win Haupage and it's a good package but i know there are magic box things that mean you can get Sky too.

i bought a tv tuner car for like 50 bucks at a place like best buy or circuit city, was a bit smaller than CC or BB, so i dont remember the name but you can get them there too, will catch all local channels and also has a cable jack to hook up to satellite or cable, can also get an external one that hooks up to USB so you dont even have to crack your box, if you need some more info PM me and ill try to help you out

any TV card will get you terrestrial £30 (pci slot /usb £10 more)
free view tuner cards are £40 +(pci slot /usb £10 more)
you can fit a free view box to a cheap one but then you spend another £30 on the free view box

You are looking at about $150 give or take a couple of bucks. You will need a Tuner card for your desktop and you will also need Windows Media Center. Very easy to install.
Try Tigerdirect.com they are really good at prices.
