I just found my childhood friend. We was friends for many years but lost contact for 18 years. When we get together after all these years I would like to buy her something nice. What should this be? I don't have any pictures of her as a child so buying a picture frame and putting one of our pictures in it is out.
We was really close growing up but marriage etc, has taking many years away. We both regret we didn't keep in touch with one another.

I don't know if you'd be into this idea or not, but I think it would be really cool (& special) if you were write a poem about your friendship & frame it. One year, for one of my best friends birthdays, I wrote a poem especially for her. I used her name in it & memories that we'd had together. And when she opened it, she balled her eyes out, she loved it so much. And considering you've been apart for so many years, it would be too hard to get a gift from a store. Plus, I think gifts like that are so personal & mean so much. Good luck!

How about a gift that can keep giving-- at some stores they have what they call "Friendship Globes"-- and it's like a silver ball, or box-- and what you do is buy small, thoughtful gifts (chocolate, a pair of earrings, a small bottle of perfume, nail polish, etc-- just small thoughtful things) and it becomes a tradition to give the "Globe" back and forth to each other at unexpected times.

My friend did this, and I really thought it was sweet.
