If you could change one thing in the US what would it be?

I know there is a lot that needs changing but name one, most important to you.

Pay all politicians minimum wage.

The one thing I would change that would change a lot of other things would be to cut federal income taxes by about 90%. This would force Congress to cut most of the fat out of the federal budget, and we might get on with running the country the way it was designed: most of the programs at the state or local level, and the feds only doing what is necessarily federal. To me, that would be the military and certain co-ordination projects, such as the communications between states to maintain the interstate highways. Communications in an emergency can be federal, but there's no reason the actual response cannot be local.

And of course, this would have a ripple effect, when the states realized they could cut their budgets by letting the counties handle most things. Why, they might even decide to let the individual citizen make a few decisions about his own life!

The "Cost of living". With less stress in the country we could probably become the Greatest Nation on Earth. More people would be Happy, less crime and more co-operation and less back stabbing for positions. YEAH, Lower the Cost of Living.

I would send all those US citizens who down our country and our president to Iran or Iraq or Afghanistan to live over there and see how much we are helping those people. So what if we've had hostages die...at least we didn't cut their heads off like they've done to our people over there. The US citizens that were beheaded weren't even soldiers! At least most of them weren't.

I would get the government out of the hand-out business.

That's handouts for EVERYTHING. Welfare, Social Security, pork barrel projects, subsidizing private industry, farmers, EVERYTHING.

HMMMM maybe I was too hasty on that answer. I'd have the supreme court packed with "originalists". That would get me the above and so much more.
