Mayonnaise is made from egg whites. If mayo sits out too long, then yes, you can get food poisoning from it. Even if something with mayo sits out for a half hour, you should throw it away, just to be safe.

Well you asked a question about Mayo and food poisoning, but that is just your guess as to why your daughter is sick. It may have nothing to do with food poisoning. If she continues to be ill or gets worse, take her to the Doctor.
In the meantime, give her plenty of fluids, check her temperature, and watch her progress. It would be better to take her to the Doctor sooner than the emergency room later, and the wait can be just as long!
;-D Take care. Good luck.

how long after she ate did she get sick? it generally takes about 24 hours for someone to develop symptoms of food poisoning. it will be a very violent flu like case. as for the mayo part, it could have been, but i've never heard of something like that considering people put mayo on their kids sandwiches for school and they sit out and none of them really get sick.

Yes- the egg's in the mayo makes it chemically prone to food poisoning. US Navy food service requirements that any food containing mayonaise be discarded after 24 hours- even if its refergerated.
