Rape is a crime of power, not of passion. People who feel powerless like to have power over especially more vulnerable individuals. Very often the man who beats his wife and children into the hospital is described as a quiet person at work. He gets his powerlessness stress out on them: at least there he can rule and make others afraid. (This is the whole point of 'family values' btw. To give a man full rights over his wife and children and to have only that be recognized as a family).
Rapists have chosen victims from infants to elderly. There is no sexual aspect of the crime --except that it completely messes up the vic tims sexuality, if not her entire life. Child sexual abuse is a vicious crime and I'd like to see the death penalty on that one.
So these soldiers feel powerless in the war. But there are people they can control. They can get to the women and children. They also do it to show their superiority or their dominance, like pissing on their property.
I'd like to say it's only a few perverted individuals. But it isn't. A study showed that if you didn't use the word 'rape', 60% of college men would force a woman to have sex. This society breeds that. It's a terrible evil. But every individual who does anything like that needs to be severely punished. Preferably immediately and hard. Because only that will deter the other power-seeking young men who have kind of learned that male dominance over women and children is their right.
Our soldiers have killed families on no provocation, raped and mutilated. This wouldn't happen if it was dealt with at all levels. 1/3 of all women soldiers in this army of ours have been raped or sexually abused by THEIR OWN MALE COMRADES. Men, want power, rape women. No one cares. The military doesn 't even talk about the problem.
Why do they rape? Because it's ok. Because no one does more than slap them on the wrist. Because their comrades egg them on. Because some men need to hurt others to feel good. Hate crimes, etc. Let me just say one thing more, which you might want to think about for a few minutes:
ONLY MEN CAN STOP RAPE
and they each and every one of them ought to do what they can to do so. Don't laugh about it, be angry about it. Be active. The guy next to you needs you to tell him he's an @$#%$%. He's not going to listen to a woman. Only men can stop rape.

Regretfully all armies have this problem. The difference is that if the US finds out about it we do prosecute are soldiers for this. This is not new but actually used in the past and currently in some civil wars in Africa as a means to control the local civilians and make them work for the invading army or the side they are against. It is a weapon of hate and fear and morally dehumanizing.

Let's take a look at what makes a soldier. Who exactly is brave enough to fight war and willing to die for his/her country? I would have believed it a century or two ago, but now a days it's not a very wise choice to make. These recruiters who work for the Army go around to very poor neighbor hoods and entice young men/woman who really have no other options after high school. They promise them a career or money for their families. Usually some join because of lack of self-respect or to gain a better position in society. (Not everyone is the popular kid on the block) If you take enough of these dumb-asses and group them together with their primitive collective mentality, you have a disaster waiting to happen.

the army seems to attract the worst kind of people, along with the best kind. sociopaths ad psychopaths are usually able to pass thepsychology tests given, and seem to find each otherin basic training, then stick together. If someone is caught raping and/or looting, they are severely punished. The problem is, their victims are usually too scared to speak up.

I was told by a Marine that it helps be cruel and downright ****** up in times of war...because if a female soldier or male were to be captured and tortured and screams could be heard, etc, etc, or you are being tortured, youre less likely to break
I'm in the army though. I come in after the marines come out.

Rape is done not only by troops. Don't we have rape in civilian life? Same elements end up in armed forces. Military life changes people, but if someone is sick or disturbed and goes untreated... things happen.

One. Iraqis rape there own children, then kill them. You won't ask why it is ok for them? Iraqis do it for fun, like Americans go to the mall. Iraqis also try to frame Americans for this all the time, raping their own children, killing their own, why are Iraqi's proud of THEIR war crimes and condemn others?

it's not military raping people. it's people raping people. it happens every day. it doesn't matter if they're in the military or not. they're just the main ones that they show on television. check out the sexual predators lists online. I'll bet it would surprise you how many registered sex offenders live in your neighborhood. I sure was. http://www.familywatchdog.us---go here.
