Because we are proud of where we come from. Background and family are very important to southerners. Plus, we have been made fun of so much, and been subjected to ignorant people saying stupid things (like we are insecure, or can't remember where we live--huh?) about us, that we just collectively decided to say, " this is where we are from, and who we are. So deal with it." Plus, the South is WONDERFUL!!! Friendly folks, best food, and great winter weather!

The Southern States and the people are very proud of their hertiage. If your traveling down there you are likely to see a cival war reinactment. They are just a proud people

Where do you live? People who live in the South but aren't from the South (say they are from Michigan, for example) often tell people where they are from. Perhaps it is the same for people from the South who live elsewhere. Probably if they lived where they are from they wouldn't have to tell you where they were from, you would know.

I'm a southerner and I don't tell people where I live, unless they ask me. And they always do ask.
