I'm so glad you asked that question. I have an awful habit of doing that. Although I do not mean it condescendingly I am sure some people do take it that way. In the south it is a sign of acceptance and affection. In other words, I would NEVER EVER call Edna honey.
If someone calls me honey I hardly ever pay any attention to it. But I'm very interested to find out how others feel about it.

i'm sorry you experience that way. To me it truly is a time period of friendship and endearment. No i don't think of that human beings that use this word are combating self self assurance and intimacy issued, i imagine they're possibly like myself. i do not often call each and every person honey, yet after I do it is because i love them, or they could be giggling at a baby, doing some thing outstanding, being outstanding to the cashier. perchance the cashier is being outstanding to the client and he or she calls them "honey". i'm perplexed as to why you're taking an harmless, endearing statement and turn it into some thing adverse. you may not positioned all and sundry in a field and say because they say "honey" they have some thing emotionally incorrect with them. My husband and that i respect human beings and toddlers and are continually chatting with them and smiling at those that are making this international a more effective position. If shall we turn the negativity into some thing effective, and imagine that perchance the human beings that use that word, are variety, comfortable, giving human beings, that recommend no harm to all and sundry and are especially properly adjusted and chuffed. Please do not %. on the effective words, eak out the adverse, vulgar, crude, prejudicial, sarcastic, bigoted words, and then it is going to recommend some thing. be at liberty! Peace and love

Not really if it is an older person it can be a compliment. Not everyone if a pervert. It is considered a term of endearment to some. I am not offended by it because I consider the source. If it is someone younger than me then it is inappropriate. It is a matter of etiquette

If a girl is attactive and calls me honey, its a good ego boost. If its an unattractive chick, i cringe. If its an old timer, i find it funny but sweet.

Oh no! I do that. I don't mean it to be patronizing at all. It's a southern thing, a term of endearment.
