also partially open does not exist....since light needs to penetrate your lens not just the white part of your eye

I'm not saying you're wrong because I have no idea how all of that stuff works. But I can tell you....my son sleeps with his eyes open. Not the whole way.....they are about 3/4 shut. But you can see his eye area. He is 15 and has done this ever since he was a baby. I can't explain it....like I said...I have no education in this area. But it is true and it is also quite creepy. Take care and I hope you have an amazing day!

Yes, I have witnessed someone sleep with they're eyes open. They weren't glaring and wide open. Most of the time, it happened when they were exhausted.
It is a comatose type of look. And yes, it is strange looking. Especially when your having a conversation with them, and they are sleeping. Ha! No, I am not a boring person.
ALSO

Why does it sound strange? People fall asleep at the wheel all the time.

My mom's first ex had a birth defect where he couldn't close his eyelids completely, so he had to sleep with them partly open. It used to freak her out all the time.

It think it's certainly possible - people sleep walk/talk, so theymight open their eyes once they're asleep, but actually falling into a rem cycle sleep with your eyes completely open would be very hard to totally impossible.

I think they probably meant that sometimes the eyelids are partially open. However, most people have their eyelids completely closed. Either way, everyone has to sleep at the end of the day.

no, some peole have sleep disorders where their eyes are open, they might even walk around the house and do chores but still be asleep.

When your mind is asleep, your eyes only see what your mind tells them to.
