I had the ZX81 but got fed up with pulling the wrong plug out of the wall socket and losing my game of tennis which had taken me about six hours to punch in, and then I bought one of the original Amstrads with "Locoscript". I added memory to it (all of 512k!) then bought another one which took 'proper' floppies. In the end I became an expert on Locoscript, and even now when I've got a decent machine with XP on it, I still put '98' on it from another previous machine so that I could put my dear old LocoScript on it - and despite all of the fancy programmes that are available nowadays, I STILL write all my letters using L/Script, and I'm an expert on it. Mind you, I STILL don't know how to open any of the wordy progs on 98 or XP. Sad, aren't I!!!

My parents got it in 1995 when I was 11; they bought it from family friends who got it in 1990. I didn't realize at the time but in '91 this was thing was a *powerhouse*... It had a Cyrix DLC33 (i.e. 486 dx33), 8 megs of ram, 2400 baud modem, 120 meg hard drive, 1x CD-ROM drive & a tape drive. My parents ended up not really enjoying the computer so they gave it to me & I used it to learn about computers... What is really funny is that long after they bought me a new one in 1997 and I sold that one to a neighbor kid, I found the documents that came with it, and in them was the origanal receipt that came with it in 1990--our family friends paid almost *$8000* for it, sold it to my parents for $750 and I sold it for $400 to put towards my Pentium in 1997.

An Amstrad that belonged to all the family - but it was commandeered by us kids to play endless games of Roland on the Ropes!

My parents got an old Pre-pentium, then we upgraded to P2, then a better P2, then I convinced my parents to buy an iMac G4. Then they got me an eMac, and now I bought an iBook. I am hooked on Macs and suggest them to anyone who's pissed at their PC.
