I kind of forgot how to do this...
Tell whether each expression is a polynomial. If it is a polynomia, identify it as a monomial, binomial, or trinomial.
1. 1/x
2. -4^5+ 6/m-1
3. -12ab^7-12

Look at the number of terms. I'm kinda at a loss for words right now in describing terms, so someone else can do that. But, in '-4^5+ 6/m-1', it has three terms. They are seperated by an addition or subtraction sign. '-4^5' is one term, then a '+' shows up. '6/m' is a second, and '1' is a third. 'Mono' means 'one,' 'bi' means 'two,' and 'tri' means 'three,' so this is a trinomial cause it has three terms.

And no, a multiplication or division sign do NOT seperate two terms.

In mathematics, a polynomial is an expression in which a finite number of constants and variables are combined using only addition, subtraction, multiplication, and positive whole number exponents (raising to a power).
1. Everyone keeps saying that this one is a monomial, however it is not a polynomial at all, because it is using the variable is in the denominator. Polynomials CANNOT have variables in the denominator.
2. not a polynomial-there is division in the term.
3. Everyone keeps saying trinomial, but I think it is a binomial because it has the term -12ab^7 and -12. So I say it is binomial.

the first and second are not polynomials as the variables are in negative power (-x^-1 in the first one and m^-1 in the second case) and the third one is a binomial as it has two terms, namely -12ab^7 and -12
i am afraid the teacher is wrong with the second one it is not a poly nomial because of the 1/m term and -4^5-1 can be simplified as -1025 it is not a trinomial either, the effective terms being only two
