I've found the perfect size plastic bowl and was wondering if I could use it instead of using a balloon. I appreciate any help in this matter as it has been MANY years since I last did a paper mache project!! LoL What I'll be using it for is to fit down inside this piece of styrafoam my cat has fallen in love with, he loves getting in and curling up in this lil confined semi-circle however it is nearly about to see it's last days so I'm frantically trying to find something to fit inside his lil circle that he can also use his claws for bedding which he can't with the plastic bowl. Sure hope someone can help me with this one...ya know this is "His" world and he allows me in it since he can't actually open his food without me!! LoL Yup...a geniune cat lover I am!!! smiles

There should be no problem using a plastic bowl as a mold for paper mache. I have always used petroleum jelly as a release agent even better than cooking spray I have found just use a very light coat. Good luck on your project

I have used cooking spray oil, but sometimes it still sticks. Two things to remember:
1) use a big plastic shopping bag over thew bowl, then spray the cooking spray over the plastic bag. That way if the spray alone doesn't work you have a backup.
2) don't let it dry completely, it Will shrink and get really hard and be even harder to take off. There is a moment when it is not too soft that it will fall apart when taken off and when it wont be too dry to get off easily.
Hope this helps!

Just spray a little cooking spray on the bowl to make sure that you have no problem seperating the paper mache from the bowl.

Go for it! I don't see why it wouldn't work. Cat lovers are good people.
