I am going to Las Vegas in November and I`ve been comparing the different hotels. I was curious as to why the Sahara is so much cheaper than any of the other big hotels on the Strip. Please elaborate if you know anything about it. If you don`t know then please don`t bother anwsering my question or with only 1 word answers. I would like to find out any other useful information as well! Thanks!

I stayed at the Sahara last year, and it's cheapness is what it mostly has going for it. It's one of the oldest hotels, the rooms are decent, the buffet is not very good, but cheap, and overall it's for people who don't want to pay for the extravagant decor of the big places. I don't think anyone's mentioned that the Sahara does have a monorail station, which helps with it's location at the far north end of the strip. The Las Vegas monorail (see www.lvmonorail.com) travels down the east side of the strip, including the Convention Center and the Hilton, and has stations connecting to the rear of many hotel/casinos all the way down to the MGM. It's also easier to get to Downtown from the Sahara. Make sure you check the hotel sites directly to compare amenities like pools, restaurants, shows.

There is only one strip, but it is very long and the hotels are farther apart than they look. The "old strip" might mean Fremont Street, which is downtown, not far away, and also fun to go to. Sahara is just as good as the other hotels seriously, it's just not as trendy and popular, it is older, and the surrounding outer neighborhoods are not desireable, but there is nothing to worry about at all, the other places are more money because they have trendier attractions. The Sahara is not on some remote location at all, it is just north of some brand new hotels. Some of my friends prefer to stay in a low end hotel on the strip, even Circus Circus, because they are coming to Vegas only to party down and the room will not be important or even memorable, they are only in the room to crash out. ( by the way, November is a great time to walk around, etc. b/c it is cool outside, but take a cab or something to different spots to walk it in small sections, there are busses, trams, and even bike cabs, do like two casinos at a time. Most people seriously hurt their feet because they are usually wearing party or dress shoes and then they limp all the way down the strip. just a tip, I see it all the time)

I've stayed at the Sahara -- about ten years ago. It is older but it has since been refurbished. It is a very good deal compared to what you would pay at the newer, bigger more glitzy hotels farther down the strip.

There is a NASCAR theme at the Sahara now -- as bizarre as that sounds. They have replicas of some of the cars and a museum and rides and games associated with NASCAR. That may or may not appeal to you.

The food is cheap and plentiful. Not outstanding but you know what you are getting.

It really depends on what you go to Vegas to do.

If you need to stay at pricier places -- this is not your hotel. If you are going to gamble nonstop, the Sahara is as good a place because it is so cheap. I disagree that it is so far away. It is on the older end of the strip but most folks walk from one end to the other during the course of a day.

A primary reason is because it is just an old hotel. Also, relative to the newer resorts on the strip, the Sahara is not actually that big or grand a place.

However, whether it is a "good hotel" strongly depends on your budget and relative tastes. If you are a college student pinching pennies, it is a great hotel. If you normally stay at the Four Seasons, the Sahara is a dump.

The Sahara is cheaper simply because it is an older hotel/casino than most of them on the Strip. It is on the North end of the Strip, which means it is on the opposite end of the Strip from most of the bigger, higher-quality casinos. We have stayed there on three occasions and did not regret it at all. Naturally, the newer ones are nice, but given the price difference I was more than happy to stay at the Sahara.

The Sahara is on the old strip. It's a good hotel but you will need to take a cab to the other sites. If you want to be where the action is now then you should look for a hotel in the new section.

I went to the Sahara 3 years ago and I loved it - Gambling there is really fun. Back then they had $1 BJ Tables. So $20 to put down there and get free drinks is a great deal.

1/2 mile or so from Riviera/Circus-curcus + Stratosphere (other direction) so not so bad. Others just overpriced. Can catch Deuce bus on other side of street for $5 per 24 hrs/unlimited rides. No reason to not stay there. Welcome the cheapness - no fear.
