I've often wondered this. Lady and the Tramp, Aristocats, 101 Dalmatians... they all let their characters breed like... um rabbits.

I personally don't think that Disney promotes pet overpopulation. I think the blame is with the parents who allow their kid to get a pet based on their seeing it and it being cute. My kid wants therefore we will get it. They don't think about the pet who will not be a cute mewing, innocent but a furniture scratching, shoe chewing, glass breaking hellion. They just don't think! It happens at Easter when bunnies are "cuter" and on impulse they are bought only to be in a shelter when they get big. It's all the same only we have crazes after movies and there are more adoptions of such animals in larger numbers. It happens everyday...some kid wants it, some parent buys it and it then goes to a shelter because it was too whatever. They should stick to stuffed animals not real ones! Stuffed don't tear up anything, require no care and don't wake you up at night to go pee. People just aren't responsible in their pet care...they buy for all the wrong reasons! I say ignorance causes overpopulation! Neuter or spay your pets and please don't allow your child to have any pet that you aren't willing to take care of on your own. That kitten or puppy will grow up and be a dog or cat requiring 24/7 care from you, an adult. The adults need to grow up and tell their children no! Unless it is an informed choice made by an adult having researched the pet and understanding the full gravity of their purchase I say the pet stores should not let people buy their pets. It's hard but it has to be done! I have had pets that I was "stuck" with because of my impulse buying. I didn't take it to the shelter, they were bunnies and mice but I was wise not to do it again. After all you are the adult and you make the decisions not your kid or that is the way it should be!

It's completly unthinking. 101 dalmations, when it was originally released, was almost directly responsible for the euthanization of almost 75 % of the breed. It's because believe whatever you tell them and don't do their Breed Research. Then when their cute little puppy turned into a largish dog that they (wouldn't) couldn't train, they turn them in to be killed.
I try to educate people as much as possible.
Also, if someone is looking for a specific breed of dog, look up breed rescues, don't support the puppy mills.

They're fricken cartoons... Its just entertainment for small children... and 101 dalmations... The puppies came from all sorts of places ... not just from one parent

Because they're movies...for children. Kids don't know about overpopulation, they just like to watch the movies.
