Pills give all the essentials - vitamins and minerals, which humans need, while water quenches your thirst. If there was a pill that made you feel full, would you be able to live off that? Hypothetical question.

Soylent Green......It's People!
Kidding! I know it is possible because there are people who take in all nutrition through a tube in their stomach. I don't think I would want to be that way. I like food and it seems to bring people together. The Food Network would be out of business! What would Bobby Flay do with his arrogant pale freckled self!

Why would you want to? There are so many flavors to savor out there in the world that you would be missing. Your body is built to work the way it does for a reason, from taste buds, your digestive system, to chemicals to tell you that you are full. Perhaps several generations from now if our bodies were to evolve to accept majority of our food and caloric intake in pill form, I don't see why we wouldn't be able to live healthy lives like that, but for this day and age, I don't think it would be healthy because vitamins and minerals aren't enough. Your body still needs calories and types of fat to burn to give you energy and feed your muscles... all wich you would need to ingest and process. So if you ammend the question to include juices and shakes I think that would get you closer to a yes for todays society being able to live off "pills & water".
