You need an internet connection, wireless router connected to your internet connection and either a built in or PCMCIA wireless card.

Then you need to set up your network addressing...

Set your routers internal WiFi network address to be something like 192.168.1.1 (usually default)

Set your PC wireless card address to be 192.168.1.2

Configure both subnet masks to be 255.255.255.0 and configure your Default gateway and DNS address on your laptop to be 192.168.1.1

That should work... Security like WEP/WPA and MAC ID filtering are optional and I wont go in to those.

Just buy WLAN USB, install with the accompanied CD, then you are WIFI Ready! Search for 'hotspots' in your area, maybe MacDonald. If they are 'hotspots' all you can do is start your laptop/notebook, insert WLAN USB. If something pop-up on your system tray, they click to connect. In a couple of minute you will be connected!

Good luck!
