Some jews and christain claim that Gods 6th commandment does not mean "thou shall not kill" but means "thou shall not murder". This translation now appears in many christain bibles. Murder is the illegal killing of someone therefore with this reading any legal killing is not murder therefore does not break Gods 6th commandment "thou shall not murder" . Now terrorists kill US and believe it is legal for them and we kill them beause it is legal for US . So are the terroist breaking Gods 6th commandment when they legally kill US and we say we are not breaking Gods 6th commandment when we legally kill them.

Legality and religion are two things that really, really shouldn't be mixed. Neither make a lot of sense, both have the potential for really horrific consequences to bad precedent and a combination of the two would probably make the result totally unworkable, and make everyone both miserable and useless.

Given the number of editions the book has gone through, and the political pressures to make things more convenient for the Church or the nations involved, I wouldn't pay too much attention to the specific word used unless you're looking at the original or a copy thereof, and can prove that this is the case.

If the terrorists in the context of your question aren't christian, they aren't bound by christian rules, so breaking a christian commandment isn't really a meaningful event. Likewise, soldiers that are acting legally under the direction of their nation, and believe that they are also acting in accordance with their religious beliefs, whatever those might be, are probably still damned or whatever by the other side.

I probably haven't answered your question. I'm probably not going to. If there is any truth to any religion, then things will probably work themselves out in the end. Being hung up on whether it's 'killing' or 'murder,' whether that applies only to humans, etc, etc is probably a mistake. Better to live the way you think is right, and see what happens.

Mary,
In a sense that you argue, all killings can be justified. We have to count the mental situation of the person who commit a murder. So for the sake of security of the society we have to treat a murder as a murder and it is a murder that is the violation of 6th commandment (if you want to take it that way).

If a religion says they believe that killing others is a sacrifice to their Lord - then whom you will blame for it? So the word 'legal' is added by the present world to do what they want.

As far as I know one of the ten commandments says
You will not kill. Full stop. It therefore means you are not allowed to kill anyone enemy or friend. When someone talks about a legal killing don;t they then take the role of our creator?
Killing and Murder are the same because if someone was murdered then they were killed,or the other way around.

I didn't realize the 10 commandments have been changed to be politically correct.
This is a perfect example why I am agnostic. Religion always has and always will serve humans with their agendas. It has nothing to do with the true meaning of God. Since when has it become acceptable in God's eyes that some killings are OK and others aren't, to fit a war's agenda?

first of all Islamics areen't proper to the ten commandments. in the Koran they locate justification for what they are doing via asserting that people helped the Jews to kill the Palestinians and thieve their land. we are of their innovations the evil ones, or infidels. As for the Israelis they are killing to guard what they see as a results of fact the promised land. they suspect that's the land of Moses. They comprehend it particularly is the land of David, and Solomon, and Saul. And in case you study your previous testomony they might desire to kill to maintain that land, it fairly is their punishment for the sins in the sight of Mount Sinai. they might acquire the promised land yet in elementary terms via the sword. So of their view, they are justifeid for doing what they do. As for the U. S., that's not a non secular conflict yet a socio-political conflict. The Islamics who took credit for the international commerce middle bombing killed people on American soil. in accordance to the Monroe doctine we are obliged to guard this area from assaults. of path it fairly is assaults via international locations. hence the killers are non secular fans that pass and do as they please. they are criminals. the undertaking is that the powers that have been in Afghanistan and Iraq have been sparkling that they'd not help the U.S. in apprehending such criminals. Why? non secular politics. those criminals are heroes to their religions. So, the only thank you to punish the responsible is to weed by the harmless. What does this might desire to do with Christianity? not lots, yet there are multiple Christians in the Coalition forces. they are killing as a results of fact they are squaddies. they have agreed to maintain on with their orders and protct their international locations against all different armies distant places and kin. Does that cause them to undesirable Christians? in all probability. yet, even Peter took up the sword to safeguard Jesus whilst they have been set upon in the backyard of Gethsemini, and he grew to become into the rock on which the Christian church grew to become into outfitted. Christians have killed and probable will kill lower back, yet it fairly is a misjudgment that they might pay for later. real now they are giving Caesar what's Caesar's.
