Joyce DeWitt, who played Janet Wood on '70s television show Three's Company, famously declared that she would not work barelegged on the show. Therefore, on all of her Three's Company episodes, she wore pantyhose or tights. It is unknown whether or not DeWitt wore pantyhose or tights under pants or floor-length dresses. DeWitt also endorsed a line of L'Eggs pantyhose at one point.

According to Chris Mann Joyce, Audra and even Suzanne said the felt more comfortable wearing pantyhose under skimpy outfits. Probably because the studio lights are so strong it makes fabrics appear more shear than they really are. I ve been watching DVD s of Three s Company. There are times Janet is not wearing pantyhose. Usually when the costume is neither sheer nor short.

That is a myth. If you watch the episodes you'll see her wearing shorts. She refused to act with Suzanne Somers though. Suzanne's husband was trying to get her a raise and he was being a jerk about it and Joyce and John pretty much had had it with her and her demands and refused to film with her anymore. In later episodes you'll notice Suzanne was filmed "away from the apartment" and always alone. It got pretty nasty.

I don't know where you heard that, but if you've ever watched eps of the show you're sure to have seen her in shorts a lot of times. I haven't seen it since it was on originally, but I still remember the 70s/80s shorts she wore.... and she had a nightgown on a lot as well.
