How would I guarantee they would remain alive and taken care of when I am gone.

As far as my country is concerned, General George S. Patton said it when he stated, "you don't die for your country. You let the other guy die for his country so you could go on living and fighting for yours"...Of course, General Patton used much more colorful language.

I am no good to anybody, dead. And, i would be even less useful to myself because I would be...dead.

I may and have put myself in harms way a number of times, but, I'm still here !

I'd die for almost anyone, as long as they're innocent and not on the opposite site of a battlefield. I wouldn't for everyone because I'm not perfect like Jesus, but at least I can try to follow his example as close as I can.

I was discussing this recently with my 9-year-old son (who's one of the people for which the answer is not just yes, but HELL yes).

One way I put it in terms that he could understand was that I wouldn't want to live 20, 30 or even two or three years knowing that I hadn't done everything possible to save him, or his mom, or his sisters. So it would be worth risking my life -- even if it meant losing it -- to save one or all of them, rather than regretting it for the rest of my miserable life.

(It's sort of a paraphrase of the speech from "Braveheart" -- "Aye, fight and you may die. Run, and you may live. At least a while. But which of you, lying in your beds, wouldn't trade ALL the days, from that day to this, for one chance, just ONE chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom?")

ABSOLUTELY! I would die for God. I would die for my children, my sister Jane I would die for a stranger. My life would have no meaning if it was just for me.
