A terrorist group (Hizbollah) armed to the teeth by terrorist -supporting countries (Iran and Syria) in a way no "militia" has been armed before has taken control of the Southern part of a sovereign state (Lebanon) with the sole aim of advancing its cause of destroying a bordering country (Israel) where neither country has any serious territorial claims over the other.
The latest flare-up started when Hizbollah crossed the border into Israel, killed soldiers, kidnapped two more, having first sent a barrage of rockets towards Israeli population centres.
Israel responded by destroying supply routes (airport runways, roads, bridges etc) and is attempting to ensure that Hizbollah is removed from the border area and that the Lebanese government take control (as required by a UN Resolution) though the Lebanese army are not a match for Hizbollah. In the meantime, it is complicated, because Hizbollah has prepared for this for years and situates its rockets in the midst of Lebanese civilians. During all this, a couple of thousand missiles have been hitting civilian cities and towns killing and injuring people all over Northern Israel. Israel's third-largest city (Haifa) is being constantly hit by missiles fired from Tyre in Lebanon, a city full of civilians and Israel somehow has to neutralise Hizbollah's capability to fire. Etc etc etc.
That's the short version. I hope it helps put it into perspective.

The terrorist group Hezbollah is based in Lebanon and like all cowardly terrorists they hide behind civilians. In Lebanon the Hezbollah terrorists are launching missiles at Israel from civilian locations--private homes, private businessess, churches, hospitals, schools. Israel has no choice but to defend itself from those attacks by returning fire on Hezbollah, unfortunately they are in civilian locations and civilians are getting killed in the cross fire. This is the fault of Hezbollah, not Israel. Also, since the Lebaneese people allow Hezbollah to remain in their country and don't rise up against them, it is THEIR OWN FAULT as well that this is happening. Now would be the prime time for the people of Lebanon to rise up and help Israel rid Lebabon of these terrorists.

Well, I will try my best to fill you in! Hezbollah, a terrorist group operating in Lebanon, bombed Isreal and took 3 Isreali soldiers. Isreal got mad and ordered Hezbollah/Lebanon to return the soldiers (20% of Lebanon's democraticly elected government is made up of Hezbollah officials). Hezbollah refused to return the soldiers and Lebanon couldn't do anything about it. Isreal got even more mad and started bombing Lebanon. Isreal has actually started invading Lebanon. Hezbollah has been fighting back and bombing Isreal as well.
