No, actually alfalfa is not good for guinea pigs. It is too high in calcium and can cause them to get bladder stones. It is okay to give as a treat once in a while, especially for baby guinea pigs. Timothy hay is definitely a better choice for them, even if it is a little more expensive. I also want to make sure that you know the most important thing about having guinea pigs - they NEED vitamin C. You can get the chewable vitamin C's at the drugstore, so make sure they get at least 100mg every day!

Alfalfa hay should only be fed to piggies who are 6 months or younger. It can also be fed to pregnant sows or sows who are nursing. It is very high in calcium and will help pups while they are still growing. After they turn 6 months (they are considered fully grown at this age), feed them timothy hay. You can also use orchard hay, although that is harder to find.

Timothy hay is better. Alfalfa can be given as a treat every once in a while, but it is a fatty hay, so it is not good in their normal diet.

if used in very small amounts....it has a lot of protein and generally their feed is made out of the same thing so you could basically be overloading them on it.

fresh sprouts can carry salmonella(sp) so i wouldn't give it to them, just to be safe.
