tell him that you care about him & want to help him understand the truth>>> cheating makes him a cheater... not a winner.
he doesn't win by cheating, because he doesn't become knowledgeable that way.
he's cheating himself out of intelligence.

Confront them about it but in a joking way...so that they are able to laugh about it too. Then end it with a smile and a line like "really though, I studied hard for that test and I don't want to get a bad grade because of being cheated off of...I hope you understand".

Keep in light and airy, no need to sit them down or have a serious talk. If you keep it simple, they get the point, and you know they get the point, but no need for them to feel really ashamed or embarrassed around you because of it.

i wouldn't say anything even something that simple still makes it snitching and snitches end up in ditches... When my son was about 3 he went though a tattle tale stage i pinned a tale i made on his pants and made him wear it all day we never had problems with him tattling again..
