You should have had one at about 16-19 weeks...Then if your doctor felt it was necessary another later in your term. If your doctor felt you were healthy enough there would be no reason for another.

In a normal, healthy pregnancy - only one ultrasound is medically necessary. This is usually done between weeks 18-22.
In a higher risk pregnancy, such as a multiple pregnancy (twins, triplets, etc) - a woman will have 2-3 ultrasounds, to make sure that each baby is getting the same growth.
I'm a lucky one. My doctor has a portable ultrasound right in his office. I had my first ultrasound at around 5 weeks of pregnancy. And, as twins were found - I am considered a higher risk pregnancy. therefore, I see my OB/GYN every 2 weeks, and get to sneak another peek at the babies. I have also already had one major ultrasound, and will have 1-2 more. But, there's a down side to it. I'm a high risk pregnancy. Will have many more tests to take, will be bedridden soon.
Don't be so glum about how many ultrasounds you've had. Be glad that you've had a low risk pregnancy. And besides, a lifetime being a mother is more rewarding than 15 minutes on a tv screen.

for a normal pregnancy usually one will suffice, around 7 months.
if there is a question about your last menstrual period, then it would help if you have one during the 1st 3 months of pregnancy, just to fix the expected date of delivery.
for high-risk pregnancies, a monthly ultrasound might help in order to monitor the progress of fetal development starting at 5 months, and may progress to a bi-monthly or even weekly ultrasound as you approach term.
in some countries, like japan for instance, a monthly ultrasound appears to be mandatory but it's not certain what advantage it has if it's just a normal pregnancy.

It depends on your insurance carrier, some only allow that you get 1 others go up to 3. But depending on your and the baby's health it could have been more if there was something wrong.

If your healthy and the baby is healthy you will only have one, unless you have a really cool doctor. I had 4 because I have a bicourneate uterus. But my baby is healthy and turning one!
