All of these answers seem to simply relate the level of freedom here with other coutries but that does not make us free, just the least enslaved. Freedom is the absence of coercion by other humans, and no country on earth is free. Incrementally our freedoms have been taken, to the point that now all humanity lives under socialist nations. One of the best ways to measure freedom is taxation... that is, monitoring what level of our time and effort spent producing is taken, by force, from us. Add up all the taxes income tax, state tax, municipal tax, sales tax, luxury tax, property tax, manufacturers tax, resource tax, death tax, gains tax, subsidies, duties, quotas, inflation...etc, We have little idea how much is actually taken from us, for most is taken before we ever even see it. A man who produces while another disposes of that product is a slave, we are all slaves now, and the state spends countless quantities of our money trying to convince us that we are free, and that they are just trying to do whats best for us because we don't know better. Research ECHELON, it monitors our every email, library books, bank transactions, phone calls... We need permits to produce, to teach, to drive, to build; what we build is closely monitored and our property taxes will increase for any improvements made, we are told what diameter pipe to use, what lumber, the rise and run of our stairs... everthing. Freedom was once a loved and cherished thing in this nation, and is now being forgotten, confused with permission, permission is not freedom, the state is not superior to the individual, for it is simply an abstraction, a word representing a collection of individuals. And those individuals cannot delegate a "right" to another which they do not have, and we don't have the right to rob eachother, to threaten to kidnap (jail) eachother if we don't pay up. We now live in a system of institutionalized coercion, in fact the entire globes populace does, and their power and control over us does not decline it is ever expanding, until complete authoritarianism has arrived, and we are very close. Remember, just because you are permitted to choose a new master in a term of years you are nonetheless a slave.

ought to you want to stay in Europe the position closed circuit cameras are on each and every nook? Europeans are already being "watched by the authorities" and some how Europe has no longer been destroyed. (BTW once you're in public you have not any correct to privateness. and with the exception of if you're terrified of being watched you're probable doing something you mustn't be doing) you say we haven't any freedom. i imagine the peole in North Korea may disagree with that, yet we are free, stop being paranoid.

That is not allowed according to docket 3456=-098 of the FCC. You may use the internet ONLY for research of family correspondance. With that 2000 election-stealing thug named Bush in the White House, the answer is absolutely, positively no! He and his administration have squashed our freedom! It looks like we're seeing the beginnings of a police-state in our country.

Well, if you don't think we have freedom, read a little about what life is like in some other countries, for example in the mid-east and in Africa.

People have it, but do not know what to do with it. They get tattoos, piercings, etc and think that is what makes them free. How shallow. The reality is, freedom idsin the head.

It seems less free to me, we seem to have lots more laws and regulations and it seems no one cares about the constitution and the bill of rights anymore, Plus the corporations seem to be all powerful anymore.
