I don't know for sure. I don't believe they can after a certain point. That is, they may be able to upon first ingesting the food but may not have the stomach muscles to force the food back up.

Having fish I can say I have seen them swollow something and about 10 seconds later spitting it out, but I've never seen it done long after they ate.

As a comm. fisherman I've see fish come up from very deep water, and all kinds of strange things happen when they hit the deck. One is it looks like some of them are barfing. Weather they just puke in every day life... Don't know

most animals, except humans and dogs, won't eat anything they're not familiar with. in the event they did they will usually just die. not all animals have gag reflexes
