The general rule of thumb is one square foot of cage space for every foot of snake. The 20 gallon is probably okay for a few more months depending on how much you feed him. Male BCIs usually get around 6-8 feet long, so a 4 foot x 2 foot cage should be enough. Females tend to get larger, so a 6 foot x 2 foot cage would be better for the ladies. However, a male would certainly appreciate the extra room if you're able to get a 6 foot cage for him. I would look at the custom cages like you would find at boaphileplastics.com or animalplastics.com instead of a tank. They're much easier to keep clean and heat than an aquarium.

At 2 feet long a 20 long tank is fine for about another 3 - 6 months. You will need to upgrade him to a larger tank by then. When he is full grown, you will need a minimum of a 55 gallon tank or as suggested make him a cage. I have several red tail's with the longest being about 9 feet.

A 4 - 6 foot cage would be fine for a boa throughout its life. You can make one yourself out of melamine, wood or buy one online. Vision cages are excellent, but are expensive.
Do some searches for snake cages or how to build snake cages for some ideas.
Find something pretty quick, a 20 gallon is way to small.

Good Luck!

You should get him into @ least a 40 gal soon, then plan on a 55gal until he gets about 7-8 ft. At that size or larger, you might want to build a custom cage.
