Try to calmly tell them what has been going on inside of you, and that you honestly need professional help. Let them know it is not their fault, as that will be the first thing they will do - blame themselves. That is okay, just tell them you really need them to understand and to help you with this. If you are bipolar, there are meds that help nowadays. See your doctor to be tested. It can change everything - I have seen it in 6 or 7 people now. If you can not tell them in person, write it in a letter and hand it to them. Let your words speak for you. Also, you could let them see this question / answers and say it is you asking for help and advice. If you were my child, I would be getting you the help you need as soon as I found out you were having a problem. They most likely feel the same way - they just do not realize. Please speak up and do it right away. Best wishes.

Well, if you are serious about the question, this is something for which immediate attention has to be given to. Most of the people suffer depression due to changing life styles, or stress in various forms.. it need not be due to weakness. If you communicate freely with your parents, it is better to open up to them straightaway, and find out the root cause of it, if you are not sure why u are depressed. A few rounds with a good counsellor may also help, as your question indicates that you would like to get off from that feeling. But in any case, a quick action is recommended.

I have gone through this myself.
You have to sit your parents down, and just be completely honest.
Don`t be scared to tell them everything you are feeling. The more honest you are, the easier it will be in the long run. They are your parents and they should know how their child is feeling. Especially if they can help you. It is going to be scary at first, but you just need to take that first step. Also tell them that you are taking the first step to getting better by telling them you need help. Maybe also tell them that you would like to include them in on the sessions. Sometimes that also makes it easier when you only have to say how you are feeling once instead of having to tell the psychologist once and then your parents. I wish you the best of luck. It is going to be a bumpy road, but you are taking the first step by admitting that you do need help.

Personally I'd break it to them like this "Mom, Dad, I hope you've got an extra $100 a week cause I Feel the urge to slit my wrists at least 5 times a day and I really need to talk with a psychologist some time in the immediate future."

But then again... I'm a paranoid Schitzophrenic... Well, not really... that's just what the voices in my head tell me I am.

It's really funny that you asked this, because I JUST asked my mom the same thing. I just told her I needed one because of my paranoia issues, and she said okay. Just ask them straight out. In the meantime, you can contact me if you want, and I can try to help you feel better (I'm not a doctor, but I might be able to help you a little bit.)

By the way, when you ask them, they may be inquisitive if they've never been to one themselves. If that's the case, tell them you know that they have been proven to cure your illness and admit that it took courage for you to go ahead and ask them. Also, get the contact information of a psychologist that you'd like to see and give it to your parents. I really think that should help.

firstly, u can't tell if u are bipolar dont go by what u see on TV, this kind of diagnosis is a professionals job. secondly, if you are shy to tell your parents, get hold of a helpline number for depression/counselling. lastly, it is a positive thing when people know they need help so atleast feel happy about that.
eventually you will have to tell your parents and best way to do it is - "mom, dad, I need help, I need to talk about stuff that I am hesitant to discuss with you but I need it out of my system, can I please see someone who can help me come to terms with my mindset". TRY IT

my best friend in the entire world was where you are and still is. Problem is, he turned to drugs......lots of drugs...and drinking. PLease dont let it get to tht point. Spare the people you care about that pain. Just tell them. You just have to say it. Tell them you are serious, and to pleez help you find someone to help you. Ask thm both to sit down and then say, look, this is wats happening to me. Pleez, i need you to help me get help from a psychologist. Don't be scared, they love you. But pleez, do it soon. Just be brave, strong, and true to yourself. Everything will be ok. But pleez dont hurt the people that care about you, they want the best for you, so tell your parents.

Well, tell them. You just tell them you're having emotional problems and you think you need help. Just be straight-forward and make sure they understand you're not crazy. (you don't want to end up in a mental institution, jk).

I need help too. But I like supress my emotions. That and turn them into irrational anger. I find that being sarcastic and ridiculing the beliefs of others on yahoo! answers helps. Try it!

Be honest about it like you were here at YAHOO ANSWERS... if you find it easier to express yourself "on paper" then maybe try writing your feelings in a letter to your parents will help you.

You can either give them the letter or use it as a rehearsal to know what you are going to say.

You are not alone! Your parents love you and will want to help.

Just tell them that you have things in your head bothering you and you really need someone with which you can talk to about them, someone impartial and not so close to you to make you feel afraid to tell your true feelings, fear, etc. to.
There are also probably some teen help lines or confidential consultations that you could go to first, that could guide you.
