Those long straps that go around the kids on a harness and then the parent has the other end around their wrist. A harness-leash.

Personally, they make me sick. If they want a dog, they should've got one. If they're that bad at parenting that they can't control and keep an eye on their kids, they shouldn't have had them.

I think parents who do that to their kids should have their kids taken away, its wrong, why on earth would you put a kid on a leash, do u expect him or her to bark on the other end? Its just wrong. what purpose does it serve besides telling the world your a bad parent? that you cant control your child? think about it before you do it

Hey, I was a leash kid, if I hadn't been one I would probably be dead by now.

I had this uncanny ability to squiggle and worm my way out of any human or stroller handhold and go stand in the middle of the street.

It think they are a good thing, they teach the child some independence while allowing the parents to pull them away from any dangerous situation, though in places like parkinglots the hand should always be held.

It also keeps the parents from either getting a hernia carring the little bug, or a dislocated shoulder. It also keeps the kids from getting dislocated shoulders if they try to pull away from mom or dad. I had so many of these before I was on a leash that now I can pop my shoulder out of joint.

It also keeps the kid from being constantly restrained in a stroller.

Overall, they're a good invention.

Have you ever taken care of a toddler or young child that will run when you have turned your head for less than a split second into the road and then get hit, or almost get hit? Or try to run into the water at the beach or river when they are too young to know how to swim? I HAVE taken care of children like that! I was a nanny for 4 kids, the youngest one having autism. This kid could run very fast, would be gone before you could say go, and has many times ended up in the street (thank God there wasn't a lot of traffic or he would have been hit) and would go right for the water at the beach or river! And when you have more than one kid to watch, it happens even quicker and easier. You can be paying attention to one kid while this one takes off. Or you could be in a store and paying for your stuff and this kid will head right out the doors and into the busy parking lot!!

Which would you rather have? A dead kid because you REFUSED to 'leash' your kid for his/her own safety? Or have him/her safe and leashed? I would much rather have them leashed and safe with me!

My brother was a wild one when he was young and had to be leashed. If he hadn't of been leashed, then he would definitely be dead right now as he loves the water and would head straight for it whenever we went to the beach or river--which was often. Back then, they didn't have child leashes, so my dad got a rope and tied him to it and then tied the other end to himself. My brother never got into the dangerous water unless someone was right next to him holding his hand.

Parents are NOT treating their kids like dogs when putting leashes on them. They are saving their kids lives, keeping them safe, which is EXACTLY what they are supposed to do!! Aren't we all about keeping kids safe, or are we a society that believes in letting young children run free to get hit, drown, be kidnapped, etc? I personally would rather see the kids in my care safe and sound, rather than hit by a car, drowned, or kidnapped.

Hi Lance,
Some toddlers are very spirited, curious, independent and won't tolerate being packed around or pushed in a stroller. A small child would love the freedom to run where ever they please. That's just not safe. A harness is sanity saving for the independent child and the anxious parent.

I TOTALLY agree with you. It makes me really angry when I see some poor child on a leash. Poor kids!! There ought to be a law against it. I can't decide if the leashes are being used because the parents are super-afraid of losing their kids or if they are just too lazy to watch their kids out in public so they have to tie them to themselves. Stange either way.

FIRST OF ALL NO ONE WHO "TIES" THEMSELVES TO THEIR CHILD RELATES THEM TO BEING A PET. SECONDLY,BEING UNABLE TO CONTROL THEIR CHILD IS USALLY NOT THE REASON ONE CHOSE TO DO THIS. IN THIS DAY AND AGE WHEN SOME ONE IS APT TO SNATCH YOUR KID IN BROAD DAYLIGHT WITHIN THE BLINK OF AN EYE, YOU CAN BET YOUR LIFE, THAT I ALONG WITH MANY OTHERS HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH TYING OURSELVES TO OUR CHILDREN !
