I think you mean "see/read the handwriting on the wall". It's an idiom or expression...To read the writing on the wall means that there are obvious signs of an outcome before it happens.
Example:
I should have read the writing on the wall when I bought this house. (It's cute but it's falling apart and it's old.)

yes the proper quote is the handwritting is on the wall .
the same quote for the proof is in the pudding or if it walk like a dog bark like a dog than it is a dog yes these are old folks saying
