Doesn't it seem ironic?

A huge number of people have this same conflict of values.

We are taught as kids that "Money is the root of all evil". At the same time, we're taught to strive toward "success", which is always presented as having a lot of money.

This conflict leads to many people spinning their wheels and not doing much in either direction. They don't get rich, and they don't give away all their possessions either.

Just having more money doesn't necessarily make you rich...they are independent of one another. Now, if I wanted to be rich, then, yes, that would make it ironic.

yes it is ironic. Until someone is poor crave for more money and wants to be rich, and until someone is poor envy and jealous of rich people.

I think it's jealousy. They want to make as much as the "rich" people but until they do they will feel better about themselves by "hating" them.

Because we're a society of hypocrisy. And we have double standards like if our neighbor has a nice house, car, whatever we consider them a wealthy jerk but if we have those things than we rationalize to ourselves that we are just enjoying the fruits of our labor.

Mostly envy, or jealousy. but you have to consider, most of us non-rich people, work for the rich people...and most people do not like their employers.
